At first glance at everyone’s internet logs, I thought that they wasted time just as I did. Then, I thought about how Nichole looked up Asian Babies on YouTube, and started thinking about viral videos that millions of people talk about. After looking at the logs, I have come to the realization how much of today’s generation’s popular culture comes from the internet. Whether it comes from Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter, so much happens on the internet that our generation hates missing because for that day or week, they will be out of the loop on major topics of conversation. So, we are not wasting as much time on the internet as I thought, we are keeping in touch with our culture.
Also looking at internet usage between my classmates and me, I noticed that we use reading and writing in a multitude of different ways, even though all of it comes down to communication and connection with other people. We read more professional writing through the news sites, and balance that with informal writing from our peers on Facebook. Sometimes, we even crave artistic writing and listen to music or watch movies and TV shows online. Usually, I would say that all these different types of writing and reading serve as our entertainment, but looking deeper, all of these that we view in the privacy of our home is about making connections with other humans. Writing does more than just communicate ideas, it creates bonds between people.
I'm honored to be mentioned in your blog:)
ReplyDeleteOh good!
ReplyDeleteGood point about the cultural uses of facebook, YouTube, etc. I mean, in a lot of ways it does matter socially and culturally to be up to date on the latest videos.
